I could've tried a non-ortholinear split keyboard like Ultimate Hacking Keyboard instead of Moonlander (from the same manufacturer as Ergodox EZ which was already mentioned here). I suppose it would be better in some aspects (for working with multiple languages which have more characters than English with frequent switching between them). If you're okay with a split layout, check out the UHK 60 v2 with the trackpoint module. It's the best thought out programmable keyboard I've ever used. I have it with the white box switches, the keypad module on the left, and the trackpoint module on the right; I also have the roller ball module, but strongly prefer the trackpoint one. What keyboard / layout do you use to get the arrow keys? I have a Ultimate Hacking Keyboard (https://ultimatehackingkeyboard.com/) and while the arrow keys are easily accessible, they require pressing a modifier. This is fine and dandy for simple usage, but I happen to do do a bunch of more complicated stuff: ctrl + arrow to go to start/end of line, ctrl + alt for words, all of this + shift for selection.... - Source: Hacker News / 9 months ago

I use the UHK. [1] It offers programmable key layers, including a mouse key layer. That combined with apps like Shortcat [2] and I haven’t needed an actual mouse or trackpad in months. I use Windows to game, Linux to dev on, and OSX at work. As primarily a Windows user using Linux was easy, keybindings were all the same. Not on OSX though like you said! I hated it as well, but then I purchased a keyboard with customizable modes - https://ergodox-ez.com. When I'm working on my Mac I switch to it's mode and now all the keybindings I have on Windows do the same thing in OSX! It doesn't bother me... Source: 9 months ago

Dvorak user for 6+ years. Whereas I was very proficient touch-typing qwerty, that ability was lost when I learned Dvorak. It was too difficult, with too little benefit, to train myself to touch type in both formats. I ended up going all-in on Dvorak. My keyboard [0] has software that translates from Dvorak to qwerty. I have an ErgoDox keyboard from ErgoDox EZ, and use a Contour Rollermouse RED Plus, which I love. The shape of the ErgoDox doesn't fit very well at all with the Rollermouse though. I've thought of buying a Microdox keyboard in the future, which have a square shape that probably fit the shape of the Rollermouse really well, but that will have to wait a bit, since that would be rather costly. Some years ago, I messaged the customer service at Ergodox-EZ about if I can change the keyswitches on the Ergodox-EZ keyboard that I bought back in 2017. Luckily for me (since I'm not tech-savy), I bought a version of the Ergodox that is customizable with the "hot swap"-concept.
