Heh, I've been there as well a decade ago when switching from windows to macos. Far manager was also the first program I'd also install on any box. It's personal preference so I'm not commenting on it. If "file explorer" by your definition is a window with have multiple columns for displaying file hierarchy, file list of current working directory, and file preview, get Pathfinder (https://cocoatech.com/). I myself can never understand why any people with sanity can work in that pesky layout that wastes two/third of screen space. Source: over 2 years ago
