If you're on Mac, you might also want to try Forklift – by coincidence, they just release major version 4 yesterday. https://binarynights.com/. - Source: Hacker News / 6 months ago
There are couple which will have two panels by default, but in my opinion, ForkLift is very native macOS commander-like app -- https://binarynights.com. - Source: Hacker News / 6 months ago
Forklift is what I use though never with that many files in a single directory. I know I have used it for ones that had 1000+ files with no slowness. It has a free trial so give it a try. Source: 9 months ago
Heh, I've been there as well a decade ago when switching from windows to macos. Far manager was also the first program I'd also install on any box. I can assure you, this will eventually pass :) To be fair, far is also not a match to modern file browsers like https://binarynights.com (forklift), especially if you need s3 integration etc. - Source: Hacker News / 9 months ago

Personally, I simply connect my Android with USB to my Mac and drag photos and videos around. Btw, I use Commander One for that (you need the Pro pack). Source: 10 months ago
The free version of Commander One will serve most peoples needs: Https://mac.eltima.com/file-manager.html. Source: 11 months ago
I can heartily recommend Commander One, a kind of two-pane Finder app. Not only useful for many things on your Mac, but it enables you to mount your Android on your Mac, make new folders, transfer files etc. Yes, it is $30, but you will not regret your purchase. Many other similar tools are not half that good, or even downright frustrating. Source: over 1 year ago
Commander One is free (there is also a pro version) https://mac.eltima.com/file-manager.html. Source: over 1 year ago
Commander One is pretty cool. I hear you about the subscription model. I'm happy to subscribe for apps that are crucial for my workflow (incl. Path Finder) but I wouldn't want to set up repeating payments for apps that I didn't use so much. Source: almost 2 years ago
