  • Hosting Vaultwarden on render.com for free.
For database, there are many, many providers that offer postgress, mysql. The full list of free databases can be found here. For now, I used a postgress database from bit.io. They offer 3*1 GB databases for free. 1 GB is pretty much overkill for Vaultwarden. Also, DUO setup is not required. I didn't find it much useful for personal use anyway. Seems to be good for corporate stuff. Source: 10 months ago
  • Difficulty unpacking a dictionary
I'm building a discord bot that stores character information for a ttrpg in an external database (I'm using bit.io) using SQLAlchemy. But whenever I send this command in my discord channel:. Source: 10 months ago
  • I finished my personal project ... but where can I host it?
Hi, I'm new on bit.io as well. I'm having consistency issues and my developers say their code is good. I don't know enough about what they've built and bit.io to see where the issue is but I'm desperate to get things working properly! Think you can help me out? Source: about 1 year ago
  • I finished my personal project ... but where can I host it?
Sorry to hear about the errors! What do you mean by reference versions? I'm the CEO at bit.io so can help fix anything :). Source: about 1 year ago
  • Best way to setup a group of students with their own Postgres instance?
Please get in touch with me or through our support channels with any questions! Like I said—there's a lot of educational usage of bit.io. It's very easy to use the platform for that purpose. There's even a coursera course that uses bit.io if you want to see what it's like: https://www.coursera.org/learn/the-structured-query-language-sql (though note that it's for an earlier version of the platform and does not map... • Best way to setup a group of students with their own Postgres instance?
I've used https://bit.io/ for simple stuff in the past, works well and is free. Source: about 1 year ago
  • How to count rows etc. from Numbers sheet (iOS)?
I know this isn’t your question exactly, but i’ve just recently found an app that will let you connect to SQL databases via Shortcuts. Much better than trying to use Numbers in my opinion! It has made reading and writing data quite easy if you are familiar with SQL! bit.io Is the cloud PostgreSQL database I’m using. They have a pretty generous free tier. I’m using this app to connect to the database and they have... Source: about 1 year ago
  • MySQL Hosting for Side Projects
Bit.io looks good, thanks for the tip! Source: about 1 year ago
  • Serverless postgres : but, what about the cold start times?
Hi there! I work at bit.io and can give you some more details. If you want to set up some time to talk further, feel free to reach out through out support channels. Source: about 1 year ago
  • Serverless postgres : but, what about the cold start times?
I've been hearing a lot about bit.io (serverless postgres) & planetscale.com (serverless mysql). But, I could not find any content of substance on their response time (especially cold start times). Source: about 1 year ago
  • As a data science hobbyist, where can I get access to an actual database so I can practice SQL on it?
I actually recommend https://bit.io/. Source: about 1 year ago

For bit.io there's no firewall rules blocking 5432/tcp on our side - db.bit.io:5432 is open to the world. That said, many companies block _outbound_ traffic to any ports other than 80/443, and it looks like that's the case here based on downthread comments. Source: about 1 year ago

Sorry for your troubles (bit.io CEO here). Per the answer downthread, it sounds like PythonAnywhere restricts outbound connections to any ports other than 80 or 443. Source: about 1 year ago
  • Unable to connect to postgres database, works if i do it through pgAdmin, hosted on bit.io
Hi there! bit.io database names are formatted as `username/dbname` and the JetBrains IDEs do not like the `/`. There are a bunch of different characters including `.`, `~`, `|` you can use instead to form a valid bit.io database name. So passing `usernaname.dbname` as the database name should allow you to connect. Source: about 1 year ago
  • Hosting a small database ...
Biased because I work there (in a role that has me using the product extensively every day)—I think bit.io is great. Setup takes seconds. Create a database with one click (or with our developer API) and then you have a Postgres database and access credentials you can use to connect with just about any tool that works with Postgres. So - I'm doing a starter project - django webapp using postgres db hosted on bit.io. when running on localhost, my webapp can connect to the db perfectly. On aws (elastic beanstalk) it also worked perfectly. Then I started racking up aws charges - decided to move it to pythonanywhere.com (free). Now it can't connect to the db. I've exhausted my google fu, even chatgpt is now stumped. If anyone has any ideas at... Source: about 1 year ago
  • WHAT is wrong with Heroku?! (deleting free dbs for paid dynos)
Some alternatives to the Heroku free tier on both Redis and Postgres exist right now. I've moved non-critical things to bit.io and redis.com (if that helps). Both have some drawbacks compared to the prior Heroku ad-ons. Source: about 1 year ago
  • Hosting a small database ...
I was thinking AWS or a cloud service would be the solution but there are so many different areas of these cloud providers they kind of have me confused about what service I want to turn on and what I don't. I did a quick Google search and I got a website called bit.io that I think does what I need it to do. Does anyone have experience using this or can tell me if AWS/Azure/etc is a good way to go about this and... Source: about 1 year ago
  • No more free Heroku Postgres, what's the best alternative? Amazon aws rds?
Try https://bit.io/ , they offer 3 free databases with 3GB storage. Source: over 1 year ago
